At the Texas Home School Coalition, we believe that parents have a God-given right and calling to raise their children as they see fit, including guiding their education.

That used to be a consensus position in this country. But it is no longer a consensus!

The National School Board Association wrote a letter to the Biden Department of Justice (DOJ) citing numerous instances of parents challenging local school board policies and board members. The letter asked the DOJ to take action, referring to these parents as violent and possible “domestic terrorists.”

One of the parents in Loudoun County, Virginia, is now speaking out on what he calls the weaponization of the federal government against parents who are seeking to have input into the education of their children.

“Asked by Fox News Ingraham if the school board at the meeting seemed to show any concern or compassion for the parents protesting at the June meeting Smith attended, Smith answered, ‘No. They were tuning us all out; they were looking away; they were reading magazines. It was a joke. I believe — and I’d never been to a school board meeting before, so I didn’t know what to expect — I believe that they had full intentions on trying to shut that thing down early, because every time we clapped or tried to support somebody, we got scolded for it. Why aren’t we allowed to clap? Why aren’t we allowed to boo? Everybody has their own opinion, why can’t everybody just get along and discuss our differences? That’s not what’s been going on here in Loudoun County. It’s all one-sided.’”

In a recent conference of the Texas Association of School Boards and the Texas Association of School Administrators, discussion focused on so-called “activist parents” and their Public Information Act requests that many parents have filed with local schools. At the conference, speakers acknowledged that schools are being “inundated” with public information requests from parents seeking to understand what is going on inside their schools.

According to The Texan News, In Carroll ISD, conflict over the issue of Critical Race Theory (CRT) has led to a heated election for the school board between a parent activist and a former teacher who supports a controversial program that critics say is tantamount to CRT.

The Texan also said, “CISD parent Sarah Muns is supporting Yeager because she believes he will defend parental and student rights more than his opponent. Muns and her family recently endured a 10-month long episode which resulted in the school board voting 3 to 2 earlier this week to grant their grievance request and issue a formal letter of reprimand against a teacher.”

According to the Texas Scorecard, Lauren Davis appealed to Governor Abbott to help her as her student has been isolated and said, “Dallas ISD, the Dealey Elementary School, has systematically segregated my kids, withheld their education, [and] coned my daughter off while other kids played,” Davis told Abbott. She also alleged DISD will not allow her in the school and “locked” her children “in a box.”

“They literally withheld education. They stuck them in the library for two weeks with no access to any classes.” She continued, lamenting, “My daughter’s failing every class.”

It seems clear that the public school system does not want activist parents to be aware of or to challenge their actions.

Parents across Texas and the country are becoming involved in the election of local school boards as a result. THSC believes that parents should be in charge of what children are learning.

What children are learning should not be deliberately and aggressively hidden from parents.

As a result of public schools attempting to hide what they are teaching students from their parents, there has been an influx of homeschoolers. We would appreciate your donation today to enable us to support these new homeschoolers into the community of like-minded families.
