Elections Have Consequences

I’ve talked recently about the Gallup poll that indicates 10 percent of the students in this country are now homeschooled. That is double the five percent estimated by Gallup in 2019.

To put that into perspective, there could be as many as a half a million homeschooled students in Texas. Maybe more!

When I start to strongly urge people to vote during election season, newer homeschool families often ask why I focus so much time and energy on this.

It’s simple. Elections have consequences!

If officials who do not support the God-given right of parents to raise their children are elected, that will lead to restrictions for Texas homeschool families and the freedom we have today.

That is not an overstatement. There are people in Texas who agree with the Harvard Law professor who urges lawmakers to “presumptively ban” homeschooling.

Let’s not wake up on the day after November 3 and wonder if that could happen in Texas! This could be an historic election, and right now the races are too close to call.

Please vote and encourage your like-minded friends and family to do so as well. Find pro-homeschool, pro-family candidates below!

It is not hyperbole to say that our freedom depends on it!

Homeschooling Explodes, But Not Everyone is Happy

For the third consecutive month, THSC has seen more than a 400% increase in the number of families using our free online tool to withdraw their children from public school to homeschool.

News stories continue to chronicle this ongoing event.

According to a recent poll by Gallup, the number of homeschooled students in the U.S. has doubled from five percent in 2019 to ten percent of school-aged children this year.

That means that there are more homeschool students in the country than any other non-public school option.

In fact, almost as many students are homeschooled as in all other non-public school options combined.

“Public school remains the most attended type of school, although it has dropped seven points, to 76%, since last year. Far fewer parents say their child is enrolled in a private school (6%), charter school (5%) or parochial school (2%).” – Gallup poll

While this is welcome news to many families and children, some have concerns.

A number of school districts are reporting lower enrollments and attributing it in part to families choosing to homeschool.

Some are seeking to make it more difficult for families to choose homeschooling and are calling on lawmakers to restrict homeschooling.

We celebrate the freedom that Texas families have to teach their children at home. However, that freedom is always at risk when the Texas legislature convenes (and it will in January 2021).

To protect our freedom to make decisions for our children, let’s vote for elected officials who support the God-given right of families to raise their children as they see fit.
