Texas Governor Greg Abbott just appointed a new justice to the Texas Supreme Court. Justice Brett Busby is a conservative with a clear and constitutional understanding of the God-given right of parents to direct the care, control and upbringing of their children.
The Texas Home School Coalition began vetting judicial candidates many years ago because the problems that families face in court are often a result of judges who do not know the law, or worse, who substitute their opinions for the law. This is particularly true when it comes to family law. Some judges often follow the recommendations of Child Protective Services (CPS) rather than require CPS to comply with the law.
Justice Brett Busby will be a great addition to the Texas Supreme Court, which in 2018 made a mistake, in our view, in a ruling that undermined the right of families to make decisions for their children. We are happy to see Justice Busby on the Texas Supreme Court and applaud Governor Abbott for putting another judge on the Court who will interpret the law rather than legislate from the bench.
