While Christians sharing the load during difficult times is a time-tested concept, Samaritan Ministries offers  a new approach to healthcare expense sharing.

1. Biblical Support From Other Members

Galatians 6 discusses how Christians should treat one another, and one of the primary directives is  to “bear each other’s burdens.”

Samaritan Ministries represents a Biblical solution to healthcare that is not insurance, but something different.

They inspire members to pray for, support and love each other in the name of Christ. Can your regular insurance provider do that?

My wife and I have used Samaritan for nearly two years.

We especially appreciate the Biblical approach that is taken by having the Christian community “bear each other’s burdens” in such a significant way.

2. Freedom—No Messing With “In-Network” Providers

Before Samaritan, we used another healthcare sharing ministry.

While we appreciated their work, the requirement that we could only be reimbursed for expenses at “in-network” healthcare facilities was a significant burden.

It left us in the position of often having nowhere to go or having to shoulder the costs ourselves.

That was true even though we lived in a major city (Dallas) where you would expect more options.

Samaritan allows you to submit expenses for reimbursement with no requirement that an office be “in-network.”

Since there are no networks with Samaritan Ministries, this gave us a significant sense of freedom to choose the provider that was best for us and which doctors we feel are going to provide the best care.

We don’t have to search through confusing databases looking up names and locations near us (or not near us!) that our traditional insurance provider might cover.

It is so easy to just go with the providers we prefer.

3. Samaritan Helps Eliminate Major Yearly Expense

We were also able to save money when we switched to Samaritan from the healthcare sharing ministry we used to be a part of.

It is worth noting that, even in the healthiest of conditions, the average cost of health insurance in 2019 was $7,188 for a single person and up to $20,576 per year for a family.

With Samaritan Ministries, sharing programs start at $99 per month for a single person, $209 for 2 member family or $263 monthly for a family of 3+.

That’s a savings of $18,000+ per year for a family!

All things considered, we are very happy with the way that Samaritan operates and how well it works for our family.

We certainly recommend it and have recommended it to several other families that we know.
