We at THSC have been talking about parental rights for decades as we defend the fundamental right of parents to direct the care, control, and upbringing of their children.

Parental rights are the very basis for homeschooling and, thankfully, that movement has risen into a very public expansion since the pandemic.

The beginning of that recent explosion was in Loudoun County Virginia when parents were confronting public school officials over what their children were being taught. The issue became central in the election for Governor when the Democrat candidate running said he did not support parents making decisions about what their children were taught in public schools.

His Republican opponent strongly disagreed, siding with parents. That became a potent issue that resulted in victory for the Republican challenger.

This movement has contributed to a major increase in the number of families choosing to teach their children at home and a dramatic increase in the number of parents who are – for the first time – becoming engaged in what the public school boards are doing in local schools.

Both of these are really good things.

On the one hand, homeschooling is dramatically expanding. On the other hand, more and more parents are becoming engaged in the school boards that are overseeing their local schools.

Both of these occurrences are good news and should be an encouragement to anyone who believes in freedom.

We support the fundamental, God-given right of parents to raise their children as they see fit, including homeschooling their children free from government interference.

We will continue to help families who choose to homeschool, and we will also continue to encourage parents to be involved politically in electing local school officials who want to work with parents, not thwart them.

Parental choice is good for families and our society.

Parents will always have the best interests of their children in mind, above the interests of the institutional system for those children.

Help us in our mission of not only Keeping Texas Families Free but in providing everything they need – guidance, one-on-one help, resources, and ideas – to get started homeschooling and to stay homeschoolers throughout their students’ careers.

If you agree with us and support our mission to support parents, join THSC or become a supporter and help us stand in the gap for this father and the families of Texas.
