Tim Lambert, Chairman of the Board
Tim Lambert is the founder of the Texas HomeSchool Coalition (THSC) nonprofit organization which was built on the belief that raising children is a God-given right and calling. For 35 years, Tim led THSC as president and now serves as chairman of the board, continuing to champion the rights of Texas families.
After the 1994 Leeper v. Arlington ISD decision confirmed homeschooling’s legality in Texas, Tim worked with the Texas Education Agency to create a key statewide policy that still protects homeschool freedom today. Under his leadership, the homeschool community transitioned from fear and isolation to one of confidence and opportunity.
Tim spearheaded legislative efforts securing key freedoms for homeschool students, including access to dual credit courses, public school extracurriculars, PSAT testing, and parent-taught driver’s ed. He also fought tirelessly to defeat repeated efforts to regulate homeschooling and advocated for fair college admissions for homeschool graduates. A favorite saying, “No man’s life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session,” reflects his vigilant defense of parental rights.
Tim launched REVIEW magazine, which reached over 60,000 readers for 22 years, and helped build the Texas Homeschool Conventions, serving up to 10,000 families annually. He also led the development of THSC’s parent coaching network to support families at every stage of the homeschool journey.
Known as both a bulldog in advocacy and a shepherd in heart, Tim’s work is fueled by his faith in Jesus Christ and his deep conviction in the value of parental rights. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from Texas Tech and served eight years on the Republican National Committee. He and his wife of 52 years, Lyndsay, have four children, four children-in-law, and seven grandchildren. When not advocating for Texas families, Tim enjoys history, tracking cryptocurrency, and battling backyard squirrels—with a green tea in hand.

Nathan Macias, President
Nathan Macias, is a born and raised Texan, retired Lt Col (USAF), former member of the Texas House of Representatives, former executive director at Patriot Academy, and small business owner. He has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, and three Masters Degrees in Business, Environmental Policy, and Education. He and his author/speaker/events director wife of 40 years, Susan, homeschooled their seven children and have welcomed six in-law children and 15 grandchildren. They homeschooled in Ohio, California, Florida, Delaware, and Texas, which far exceeds any other state when it comes to education freedom.

Jeremy Newman, Vice President of Policy & Litigation
Jeremy Newman was born in California but grew up in Texas after his family moved to Dallas when he was just 6 years old. Jeremy was homeschooled for his entire K-12 education and went on to get his Juris Doctorate degree from Oak Brook College of Law. Jeremy began working with THSC in 2013 as a legislative intern in THSC’s inaugural team of THSC Watchmen.
Jeremy’s wife, Addi, grew up on the mission field in Honduras and she and Jeremy met while competing in speech and debate in the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association, NCFCA. They now have three sons who are all homeschooled–Wyatt, Delan, and Atlas– and they live in Fort Worth, Texas, where Jeremy indulges in unhealthy passions for tacos and playing Ultimate Frisbee. Jeremy currently serves as the Vice President of Policy at the Texas HomeSchool Coalition where he oversees all legislative, political, and litigation-related efforts.

Anita Scott, Public Policy Director
Anita Scott, a native of Oak Cliff, Dallas, Texas, came to Texas Home School Coalition in 2022 after serving for a decade as a K-12 teacher and administrator. Anita points to God as the One who receives all the credit for creating within her an appetite for policy because, as she says, she never saw this coming.
Beginning in the 80s, Anita, along with her 7 siblings, were homeschooled by her mother and father in a 3-bedroom/1 bathroom home before her father went and leased a building so they could begin homeschooling other children. Anita worked at her parent’s homeschool Christian school before graduating and then working on her undergrad degree while tutoring and teaching in nearby community colleges and universities.
Joining THSC has laid the foundation for Anita to learn how the legislative process works in order to ensure it benefits the families of Texas – not just in theory, but. One of her favorite verses is Psalms 68:6 She has seen God put her in a big family and has simultaneously mirrored that love by, as a single woman, fostering teenage children. Her mantra: God puts the lonely in families.
Some of her hobbies include snowboarding, horseback riding, napping, and spending intentional moments with family and friends. She has already bungee jumped and skydived, so next are paragliding and riding a giraffe.

Larry Walsted, Finance, Admin & Development Director
Larry and his wife have been involved in the Texas homeschool community since 1995, when they began homeschooling their first child. They continued their homeschool journey with all their children until their youngest graduated in 2013. All their children have earned their BA degrees, with one pursuing a Master’s degree. Both Larry and his wife hold degrees in Organizational Leadership.
Throughout their homeschooling years, Larry and his wife participated as exhibitors at the annual 3-day homeschool convention in the DFW area. His wife has been a curriculum consultant for the company that educated their children, and Larry helped set up and tear down their booth. They have also been involved in THSC’s political vetting committees since 2017. In their spare time, they tend to their mini homestead with raised garden beds and chickens.
In 2013, Larry left the corporate world after his youngest child graduated high school. With nearly 35 years in hospitality, he transitioned to a consulting career as a personal financial coach for individuals, families, and small businesses. He also began teaching Personal Finance/Economics at the homeschool co-op his children attended.
At the 2022 Kirk Cameron VIP event in DFW, Larry learned that THSC was seeking a Director of Business Development. Feeling called by God, he reached out and joined THSC in September 2022. Larry’s background in business and personal homeschooling experience uniquely qualifies him to advocate for and equip the homeschool community. For Larry and his wife, homeschooling is more than an activity; it’s a lifestyle they continue to live daily.

Susan Macias, Events Director
Susan Macias lives in San Antonio, Texas, the same city where she graduated all seven children from their family’s homeschool. Their family adored reading aloud, history, and bringing learning to life. Through the years, Susan has taught at homeschool conventions and gatherings because she loves helping new homeschool families succeed. As Director of Events at THSC, she endeavors to bring the greatest value possible to every THSC event.
Susan is a voracious reader who devours historical-fiction, biblical history, and biographies. She also loves to entertain her friends and large family, especially her fifteen grandchildren.

Atley Nugent, Engagement and Infrastructure Director
Atley Nugent grew up outside of Nashville, Tennessee, where he was homeschooled until high school. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Business from Middle Tennessee State University before pursuing a Master of Divinity at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Atley and his wife, Liz, now live in Lubbock, Texas, where they are raising their three children Brooks, Aubrey, and Hudson. With Brooks approaching homeschool age, their family is preparing to begin their own homeschool journey.
Atley serves as a deacon on the worship team at Redeemer Lubbock, where he helps wherever needed and leads worship. In his free time, he enjoys reading high fantasy and Reformed theology, listening to just about every genre of music, and exploring state and national parks with his family.
Atley joined the Texas Home School Coalition in 2020 and has served the homeschool community through technology development, marketing strategy, and member engagement initiatives. He currently serves as Director of Engagement and Infrastructure, overseeing THSC’s technology systems, digital communications, marketing operations, and member support services to help equip and protect homeschool families across Texas.

Sarah Snow, Finance & HR Manager
In 2016, she and her husband attended the THSC Convention in Arlington, TX, while considering homeschooling. They signed up for the New to Homeschool day, and after hearing speakers like Andrew Pudewa, they left the Convention with their curriculum ordered. Initially, their children were unsure about homeschooling, but after the first year, they decided to continue, a choice they have maintained since.
After two years of homeschooling, she wanted to continue her career in Accounting and Human Resources. She applied for a position with THSC and began working as the Bookkeeper in 2018, gradually growing into her current role.
Her favorite part of working for THSC is the passion and care of the people, having her family serve alongside her at Convention, and ensuring that homeschooling rights are protected.

Heather Young, Membership Support Manager
Heather, her husband Joshua, and their two youngest children live in Tomball, TX, where they are active in their church and community. Their oldest daughter and grandson live nearby and frequently visit. They began homeschooling when their son was four, seeking a Biblical foundation and the freedom to cater to their children’s learning styles and interests. The decision was driven by a desire for their children to thrive in both education and faith.
Heather earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Texas A&M University and a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Hardin-Simmons University, followed by studies in School Counseling at Sam Houston State University. She also taught Special Education in a public school setting for nine and a half years. Over the past eleven years, she and her family have incorporated various therapies into their routine and actively participated in local homeschool groups, with Heather serving as Curriculum Director for one co-op. The family also serves together in ministry and enjoys outdoor activities, history, and spending time with loved ones.
Heather’s involvement with THSC started as a member and mentor, providing coaching to new homeschool families. She and her husband attended conventions to grow as a couple and parents, eventually joining THSC in 2021. She now serves as the Customer Relations/Member Support Manager, Special Needs Specialist, and Homeschool Coach. Through her work at THSC, she is passionate about supporting and encouraging other homeschool families.

Kaitlyn Smith, Membership and Marketing Manager
Kaitlyn grew up in Tuscola, Texas homeschooled by her parents and alongside her two brothers for almost her entire life. After graduating highschool, Kaitlyn pursued her college education at Hardin-Simmons University located in Abilene, Texas. Here she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Strategic Communications with two minors in Business Administration and Honors. While at HSU she competed on the softball and track teams, throwing the javelin. She continued her track career through her graduate program at Abilene Christian University where she earned a Master’s of Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing in Summer of 2024.
Through her college career and afterwards she has worked in various career fields such as hospitality, Division I and Division III athletics, agriculture, academia, although in all of these fields she has maintained a focus on either marketing or membership. She joined THSC as the Membership and Marketing Manager in February 2025. She was initially introduced to THSC in Spring of 2015 when her mom worked with the THSC Convention volunteers and she went to Capitol Days. She is always excited to help the members of THSC and support/market all the various functions and aspects of the company!
She now lives in Abilene, Texas with her husband, Stone, and their two rescue dogs “Wayne” and “Duke”. They are expecting their first child in October 2025. Kaitlyn enjoys reading all types of books, working out/running, cooking for her family and friends, and attending all the family sporting events.

Lydia Meadows, Executive Administrator & Donor Development Manager
Originally from Orlando, Florida, Lydia Meadows now calls Lubbock, Texas home. As someone who was homeschooled, she developed a deep appreciation for the flexibility, faith, and family-centered values that home education provides. That foundation is a big part of what fuels her passion for serving families through the Texas Home School Coalition (THSC)—because she’s experienced firsthand the lasting impact homeschooling can have.
Lydia joined the THSC team in February 2025 and considers it a true blessing to be part of a group that’s so committed to equipping and encouraging families on their homeschooling journey. Before coming on staff, she volunteered at the THSC Convention for several years. It quickly became one of her favorite events—an uplifting weekend filled with connection, inspiration, and community.
When she’s not working, Lydia enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, camping, staying active, and enjoying just about anything sports-related. She also has a rescue dog named Rory, a Husky/German Shepherd mix who’s always up for an adventure. Being able to give back to the homeschool community through THSC has been an incredibly meaningful experience, and Lydia is truly grateful to be part of something with an eternal impact.
