How to Use the Election to Teach Your Kids

Last week Texas and the country experienced an historic election! More people voted in this election than any other and this contains lessons for homeschool families.

As I write this, the voting continues (and may for some time) in addition to lawsuits. This is a rare opportunity to teach our children about “good citizenship” and a hands-on study of government.

Twenty years ago (in 2000), my wife and I had this opportunity with our children when for weeks the country was focused on the recounts in Florida that ultimately decided the presidency by about 500 votes.

These times are terrific teaching opportunities that will make a lasting impression on our children because they are tied to historical events.

If you’re a THSC member, you can use the Lone Star Study (THSC unit study) to help your children understand governmental processes (find it in your member portal).

Another lesson is that elections have consequences. In Washington, D.C., the city council has decided that children as young as 11 years old can receive vaccinations without their parents’ knowledge or consent.

Clearly, many think people other than parents should be empowered to make decisions for children.

At THSC, we believe that parents have a God-given right and responsibility to raise their children. We continue to defend that constitutional right for the blessing of the families of Texas.

Thank you for fighting with us through your support and prayers!
