March 2nd Capitol Field Trip Summary Report

In March ‘23, Texas Home School Coalition hosted its first-ever Capitol Field Trip event led by the Watchmen team.

We are happy to report that the event was a success! We had homeschool families and co-ops show up with students ranging from preschoolers to high schoolers.

The event began with a workshop that included presentations on the Texas State Legislature, the history of homeschooling in Texas, THSC’s current Legislative priorities, and information on HJR 37. The workshop also included activities and skits about how the Legislature operates and how bills become laws.

During the workshop, we were honored to have the opportunity to hear Representative James Frank speak on the issues that are facing homeschoolers and parents in Texas.

After the workshop, homeschoolers had the opportunity to talk to Legislative offices about HJR 37, which is a constitutional amendment we are supporting in this session. HJR 37 prohibits the state from regulating private schools, including home schools.

Homeschoolers’ presence at the capitol is incredibly valuable if we are to continue protecting our rights against ongoing attacks. If you are interested in getting involved by attending our next Capitol Field Trip on April 5th, you can register here: https://t.ly/lobbyingfieldtrip.
