Sample Homeschool High School Course Plan

While homeschoolers in Texas are not required to complete any specified course plan other than a bona fide visual study of reading, spelling, grammar, mathematics and good citizenship, the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) recommended high school program may give you a starting point.

Note that the TEA recommended program is only a guide.

As a home educator, you are free to customize your student’s high school plan.

Just like when your child was in middle school, making sure to follow the Texas law requirements for homeschooling is important.

The TEA recommended and distinguished high school programs consist of 26 credits, while the minimum plan consists of 22 total credits.

These can be a combination of online courses or other types of homeschool curriculum. The core recommended course sample is:

  • 4 credits of English/Language Arts
  • 4 credits of Mathematics (including Algebra I, II, and Geometry plus an additional course)
  • 4 credits of Science (including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics plus an additional lab course)
  • 4 credits of Social Studies
  • 1 credit of Physical Education
  • 1 credit of Fine Arts
  • 5.5 credits of Electives
  • 2 credits of Foreign Language Studies
