Since early January, the THSC Watchmen have been standing guard on the 2019 Texas legislative session in Austin. Daily activities include reviewing legislation for the purpose of identifying threats to family freedoms and homeschooling.
Last week, the legislative team had a change of pace while attending THSC’s All Staff Advance meeting in Denton. It was an opportunity for the THSC Watchmen to meet the rest of THSC’s team. Everyone learned more about how THSC is fulfilling its mission to protect families and advance the freedoms that Texas homeschoolers hold dear.
Early Committee Assignments
As expected, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick promptly announced the Senate committee assignments for the 86th Texas Legislature.
With a new speaker in the Texas House, some predicted that House committee assignments might not be released until the first or second week of February. Despite the added workload of establishing a new administration, Speaker Dennis Bonnen released the House committee assignments only two days later!
Impact on the THSC Watchmen
The announcement of committee assignments about three weeks earlier than expected could be a game changer for the THSC Watchmen and for THSC’s legislative priorities. Hearings may start earlier than in previous sessions, allowing for more time to talk with legislators about the issues that matter most to us.
The THSC legislative team will continue to lay the groundwork and strategize to pass historic legislation during this session. However, we cannot be successful without your support. Will you make a generous donation to the THSC Watchmen today?
