Encouraging Progress on CPS Reform
In 2017, THSC, in partnership with the Texas Public Policy Foundation, passed substantial CPS reforms. This session, we are returning to the table with additional reforms that are still needed.
THSC’s legislative team recently had a productive, encouraging meeting with CPS and the TX Supreme Court Children’s Commission, along with Rep. James Frank’s office and the Texas Public Policy Foundation. After nearly a year and a half of discussions, it appears that near uniform agreement may be reached on final bill language for the Child-Trauma Prevention Act.
This is a substantial step towards passing the important reforms included in this bill, which will help protect Texas families.
UIL Equal Access Bill Filed in the TX House
The THSC Watchmen assisted dozens of homeschoolers last week in lobbying for the UIL Equal Access bill at THSC’s Capitol Days. Also known as the Tim Tebow bill, it allows homeschool students to participate in University Interscholastic League (UIL) extracurricular activities at their local public schools.
Just in time for THSC’s Capitol Days, homeschool dad and State Rep. James Frank officially filed the UIL Equal Access bill in the Texas House of Representatives. House Bill 1324 will be a top priority in the THSC Watchmen’s lobbying efforts for the rest of the 86th Texas Legislature.
