When the Social Security Administration dropped a home school student’s benefits because the student had an upcoming 18th birthday and was not attending a traditional school, the family contacted THSC requesting help. President Tim Lambert responded to the member family’s request with a letter to the Social Security Administration. In this letter, he explained that home schools are private schools according to Texas law. Therefore, this student’s Social Security benefits should extend until high school graduation.
