2 New Policy Changes Protecting Homeschool Families

Our Constitution provides for three branches of government, but it seems we have a fourth branch—regulatory agencies. The legislature creates laws, but their oversight and implementation are entrusted to regulatory agencies. Public policy set by these agencies is a great place to affect change. In Texas, laws related to child protection cases are implemented and regulated by the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS). Over the years, this enabled THSC to successfully negotiate several changes to CPS policy on behalf of home schoolers and parents.

Leadership in a co-op can be stressful. Though I was concerned about teaching this semester, I decided to teach a class of six- to eight-year-old children. I teach first hour, and it feels like the perfect time because the tender hearts of these children leave me better prepared to deal with some of the crazy things that happen in our co-op. On a recent cool, sunny morning in late September, I arrived early, with great plans to get into my classroom ahead of schedule. When I arrived, however, I noticed a terrible blackness all over the walls of the church. The church was engulfed in a swarm of crickets!

As November 9th dawns, such an absolutely incredible and historic election is imprinted in the memory of Americans. For weeks to come, the media and political pollsters will rehash how Donald Trump managed to win a race that most predicted Hillary Clinton would sweep.

In what’s being called a "stunning upset," the Republican party now controls the House, Senate, and Presidency, something it hasn’t done since 1929 except for under President George W. Bush in 2003-2006.
