Is it just me or has public discourse gone from PG to PG-13 in the last year?

Same-sex marriage. Transgender bathroom choice. Police killing African-Americans. Americans killing police. Scary clown terrorists targeting schools. And now, “locker room banter.” The news is getting extremely difficult to explain to an eight-year-old! I find myself wishing we could talk about an easier subject—like puberty!

Should You Homeschool Your Special Needs Child?

Therapy visits, doctor appointments, and hospital stays are an everyday part of a medically fragile child's life. Add in school and juggling this hectic schedule becomes even more challenging.

While access to public school services may sound like a great option, the required extra meetings and possibility of truancy trouble adds unneeded stress to the family environment. Thus, many parents of medically fragile children find that home schooling is a better choice for their child.

The United States is changing. The country we live in today is not the same one our parents lived in 30 or 40 years ago. Politics in the U.S. has become so partisan and polarizing that values and platforms have been almost entirely overshadowed by emotions. This election cycle has left many people wondering how they can make a difference or whether it is even worth voting.

The fight for parental rights is an ongoing battle in which we must constantly be engaged. Since the Leeper decision, there have been many advances of home schooling freedom, not only in Texas, but throughout the country. Statistics collected nationwide over the last decade have shown that parent taught home education is no longer considered “fringe,” but is more and more accepted as mainstream.

How to Make This Election Good for Your Family

I would love to hide my kids away until they are 25. Think of all the benefits! No need for allowances, sleepovers, sporting events, and no outside influence! To be honest, that’s the biggie for all of us, isn’t it—outside influence? Today’s world is much different than it was when we were younger.

Where in the world are we headed? I can tell you—straight into the strangest election I can remember in my lifetime! Uncertainty in our country’s government is high on my prayer list. Since I can’t tuck my wonderful children away and protect them from all the misconceptions and lies that accompany a society living far from Biblical truth, I need to get on the ball and begin guiding them through the muck!

“They came here and just took her ... She didn’t get to say goodbye; she didn’t get to see me for months.”

Although this sounds like a kidnapping, it’s not. Chassidie Russell’s daughter was taken by a Texas Family Court Judge. She spent three years living with estranged in-laws even though Russell was never accused of being neglectful or abusive.

Home schooling across the country is booming. Our home school groups are growing too. For example, co-op enrollment in my group jumped about 33% from last semester! This is good news for a country clearly in need of strong leadership from the next generation. This alternate form of education we call home schooling, with discipleship starting inside the home,  has proven to be an excellent tool for growing leaders that are willing to stand for what they believe.
