February 26, THSC PAC released the statement below to clarify some of the reasons THSC endorsed Bryan Slaton in lieu of Representative Dan Flynn. THSC thoroughly vetted Bryan Slaton, including an interview by a THSC vetting committee. Mr. Slaton scored high in his beliefs and positions on parental rights, school choice, social issues affecting families.

Is it Really ADD? 3 Solutions to Consider…

It’s more than in the head . . . it’s also in the gut.[/caption]I remember sitting at the kitchen table with one of my boys and discussing his struggle to stay focused. “Seriously?” I asked in amazement. “You can’t read from the top to the bottom without thinking about something else?” His answer was an emphatic, “No way!” What we determined was a propensity to wander in thought because the material wasn’t interesting enough to engage him. Who knew that the economic system in Europe wasn’t engaging? After all, he could sit quietly and look at books about guns or animals all day long. To be honest, I can’t say that I blame him. I am reminded, however, of the many times I have wondered if my boys struggle with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). You hear parents talk about ADD all the time. Often, children are diagnosed unnecessarily or struggle with the disorder, but have not been properly diagnosed. As our family struggles with staying on task, I ask myself what else can be done to encourage peace.

Why Doesn’t THSC Endorse Friends?

By |2019-08-15T11:42:26-05:00February 25th, 2016|Legislative Advocacy|

Recently I have been contacted by several people who have questioned some of our Association’s endorsements. That is not unusual, but this time we were being questioned about opposing elected officials who we had endorsed in the past. So I thought it would be beneficial to address this issue publicly.

Crucial: Vote Based on Facts, Not False Accusations…

It has been truly discouraging the way in which campaign and primary elections seem to go as of recently. At one time, politics and political campaigns were about policy and deciding who would make better decisions if elected to office; however, this does not seem to be the case anymore. It seems that many campaigns spend time spreading stories about the opponent that are either untrue or have no bearing whatsoever on the election. Sometimes these kinds of attacks are made by one candidate toward the opponent, and sometimes they are even made by a candidate’s supporters toward the opponent. Regardless, it would do many people good to get all of the facts before attempting to ruin someone’s reputation. And even more important, Texas voters diligently need to investigate to get the accurate facts behind any story.

Precinct conventions: what they are and why YOU should participate

What is a precinct convention? Well, I am so glad that you asked.

As you know, it is very important to vote so that your opinions can be measured on issues and  heard, hopefully loud and clear, by candidates and elected officials. In a primary election year, such as we are currently in, voting is the first very important step.

But Voting Isn’t All You Can Do

The next step is often overlooked and is truly a citizen’s perfect opportunity to let his or her concerns be known through experiencing a “hands on” opportunity to make a difference in the political system.

6 State Representatives Who Have Been Ruined by House Leadership

In a red state that typically elects a Republican into nearly three quarters of the seats on the House and Senate floors combined, it does not add up that conservative legislation is not passed, even with a legislature that does not need the Democrat members present to conduct business.

If Republicans have the majority in both chambers, why is it that session after session few things seem to really get accomplished? Why is CPS still allowed to run rampant over the rights of Texas families? Why are vindictive in-laws still able to take possession of grandchildren without having to prove that the children’s single parent is unfit to take care of them?

Have you hugged your home school group leader this month? Do you know that most home school group leaders are servant-hearted volunteers who have a desire to encourage you and to help support your home school? Do you know that many of them must lean on their own families to help them get the job done, and there is often so much more going on behind the scenes that you may not realize? Did you know that long after you leave a field trip and well after the last class meeting of the week, your board of leaders is working faithfully to help your group thrive?

How to Overcome Being Overwhelmed

By |2019-12-10T16:36:23-06:00February 8th, 2016|Groups, Homeschool, Leaders Connect, Support|

Can I Really Do This? Leadership can be overwhelming at times. It seems like everything that was going smoothly suddenly falls apart and we, who love to serve others, are unable to offer another thing!

Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:30-31). As we read this, faint seems like an understatement for how we feel! Doubt creeps in. It’s subtle at first; then we miss a deadline or forget an appointment, and the ground beneath us quickly crumbles.
