Letter to Snyder ISD – February 9, 2012

Recently a member family contacted THSC requesting help in response to continued harassment from the Snyder Independent School District following the withdrawal of their daughter to homeschool. Tim responded by written communication to the authorities involved, educating them on Texas law and the current position of the TEA and Texas commissioner of education.

Letter to Lamesa ISD – September 13, 2011

As another school year got underway, THSC found it necessary to inform an elementary principal at Lamesa ISD that it is not necessary for a parent or guardian to make an appearance at the school or complete school forms to disenroll their child if they have given written notice of withdrawal; neither is it required by law.

Apparently, as part of their policy, Lamesa ISD requires parents, who are withdrawing their children from that district to homeschool, to review a 10-page “Home School Information Packet,” which includes several pages for parents to sign and return. Tim later followed up with a second letter to the assistant superintendent explaining that this packet was in direct violation of the laws regarding home schooling that have been determined by the courts.

Letter to Marshall ISD Follow-up – March 14, 2011

After a Marshall ISD school official arrived at the door of a member family with the local constable and insisted on seeing the children and reviewing curriculum, Tim Lambert followed up with a letter to the school informing them of the laws regarding home schooling. The constable told Mr. Lambert they were at the house investigating truancy, but the two later stated they were concerned about the legal guardianship by the grandmother. Tim addressed their concerns in a second letter.

Letter to Marshall ISD – March 10, 2011

After receiving a certified letter of withdrawal, a school official continued to call and threaten a member family, finally arriving at the family’s home with a constable demanding to see the children and review the curriculum. The member refused to let the school official enter her home and called THSC. Tim wrote a letter informing the school officials that this family had followed the procedure recommended by the TEA and advised them of the law regarding home schooling.

Letter to Lamesa ISD – January 20, 2011

When the assistant principal from Lamesa Middle School called the THSC office to ask the staff to inform a member parent (whom we had advised in the proper withdrawal procedure recommended by the Texas Commissioner of Education) that she must come to the school and fill out the paperwork that was “required by law,” Tim Lambert responded with a letter to the school informing them that it is not necessary for parents to make an appearance at the school or to complete forms to disenroll their children.

Letter to Seven Lakes High School – December 13, 2010

When a THSC member was contacted by the public school after sending a written letter of withdrawal via certified mail and asked to come to the school to complete a withdrawal form, Tim responded with a letter informing the school of the TEA policy concerning the withdrawal of students.

Letter to Brazoria County Sheriff – February 26, 2010

Almost three years after withdrawing their son from public school, a Brazoria County Association member’s father-in-law was confronted at his home by the county sheriff, a constable, and two unidentified women asking about his grandson’s school attendance.

Letter to Austin ISD – February 10, 2010

After an Association member family withdrew its children from school via certified letter, a school official required them to come to the school to sign withdrawal forms. The family responded with a letter of assurance, per the Texas commissioner of education’s instructions. The school official continued to insist that they fill out forms, even stating that “… it was the law.”
