Letter to Attorney General – Uvalde – February 24, 2011

When a member’s child support was terminated on her daughter’s 18th birthday, Tim wrote a letter to the attorney general’s office on her behalf, explaining that home schools have been determined by the courts of Texas to be private schools. According to Texas Family Code §154.002, child support may continue beyond the age of 18, through high school graduation, if the child is a full-time student pursuing a high school diploma in a private school.

Letter to the Attorney General, Austin – January 2011

Home schools have been determined by the courts of Texas to be private schools. According to Texas Family Code §154.002, child support may continue beyond the age of eighteen through high school graduation if the child is a full-time student pursuing a high school diploma in a private school. So when a member parent received notice that her child support would be discontinued upon her daughter’s 18th birthday, Tim was happy to write a letter to the attorney general’s office on behalf of the parent.

Letter to the Attorney General – Dallas, November 2010

When a THSC member received notice that her child support would be reduced because her son recently turned 18, THSC responded with a letter to the attorney general’s office on her behalf. Tim informed the office that the attorney general’s policy is clear on this point and that the parent has a legal right to child support under Texas law until her son graduates in May 2011.

Letter to Attorney General Greg Abbott – Nov. 2010

As a follow-up to a recent phone conversation with Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott regarding concerns of Texas home schoolers, Tim wrote a letter addressing the issue of child support beyond the age of 18 for home schooled students. Tim pointed out that although the law is clear on this matter, many times child support for home schooled students is discontinued until the case can be presented before a judge.

Letter to the Attorney General – Austin June 2010

When the attorney general’s office Child Support division representatives had questions about continuing the child support for eighteen-year-old daughter of an Association member, the mother called THSC. Tim Lambert wrote a letter to the state’s attorney general, reminding the representative in the Child Support division of the rules regarding the payment of child support for legitimate high school students.

Letter to the Attorney General – Dallas, May 2010

After an Association member’s son reached eighteen years of age, his noncustodial father terminated his health insurance and child support. The mother appealed to the Texas attorney general’s office. After receiving no satisfaction from the office of the attorney general, the mother contacted THSC. Tim Lambert wrote a letter to a representative of the state attorney general’s office explaining that students in private schools may continue to receive child support even after their eighteenth birthdays.
