Raymond J. Thomas and Roger J. Thomas III from Huffman both won the Buffalo Soldiers Black History Month Essay Contest sponsored by the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum. Each entrant was required to submit an essay on the topic of the historical significance of the Buffalo Soldiers to the twenty-first century student. Roger won second place, which touted a prize of $250, and Raymond won first place and a prize of $500. The Buffalo Soldiers National Museum sponsors this essay contest each year.
